Can the MC6 Pro emulate varied TRS footswitch ouputs?

Hi guys
First up, I’m a sax player and have a lot of experience with MIDI and music tech in general…but I’m relatively new to certain aspects of MIDI pedalboards, especially regarding TRS config.

Can each of the MC6 Pro switches be configured to send varied TRS footswitch commands? I need to send various TRS commands to a Luminite Graviton M1 wireless MIDI system (TRS Out of the MC6 Pro and TRS In to the M1) because due to certain limitations, I can’t send MIDI commands. The Luminite M1 can “learn” universal footwitch commands but in using the demo mode of the Morningstar Editor, I can’t see how to send specific TRS commands via switch presets over a single Omniport…I can only see how to send global commands via each Omniport config. And I also can’t work out how I’d configure a preset to send a TRS command.

As an example: I also have an XSonic Airstep and I can configure individual switches to send commands as per below, and the Luminite M1 has no problem at all with learning these switches:
Switch 1:
Message 1
Trigger: Press
Message type: Footswitch
Output Interface: Tip
Action: On-Latching

Message 2
Trigger: Release
Message type: Footswitch
Output Interface: Tip
Action: Off-Latching

Switch 2:
Message 1
Trigger: Press
Message type: Footswitch
Output Interface: Ring
Action: On-Latching

Message 2
Trigger: Release
Message type: Footswitch
Output Interface: Ring
Action: Off-Latching

Can this sort of thing be configured with the MC6 Pro? And if so, how would I do this?

Thanks so much in advance!

Cheers
Gary

EDIT: Is what I’m asking considered to be “Relay Switching”? And if so, it appears that I’d also need a Morningstar Relay Interface to be connected to an Omniport?

Hello! The Pro can do that. No need for extra purchase, it’s got two 1/8” TRS ‘relay ports’ built in meaning you can address up to six switches (allows tip or ring or T+R per socket).

The older units can accept an optional omniport relay interface to achieve the same thing.

Manual: MC6 PRO

Thanks so much @moley6knipe. Whilst I have a lot of MIDI knowledge and experience, my knowledge of TRS has been non-existent until now and it’s a steep learning curve, especially when manufacturers appear to use different terminology i.e. you’ve just confirmed to me that “relay switching” is what Pirate MIDI refers to as “TRS Switch Out” with their devices, and that Luminite generally refers to as “TRS”. So thank you so much for clarifying this!

Are you able to interpret a few more TRS commands for me, as would be used by the MC6 Pro? i.e. what is the Morningstar message equivalent of “Ring, On-Latching”? Would this be:

Select Tip Action: Nothing
Select Ring Action: Engage

Something that I’m also unsure about is: with my XSonic Airstep, there are three options for TRS actions: On-Latching, Off-Latching and On-Momentary. What would the Morningstar equivalent of On-Momentary be?

The concepts are covered in Omniport Relay Interface Manual - written assuming an older model with the external interface but the principles are the same, it’s just implemented differently in the Pro.

Ahhhhhhhhh. got it. Thanks you so much! This was driving me nuts. You’re a legend.
