Brand new ML10X. No sound on second session with it

Received my Ml10X 2 days ago, could only set it up today. Tried a test loop, everything is working great. Add several loops, tried avanced presets, so happy with everything.

Two hours later, wanted to play again, no sound. The test preset does not work anymore, and hiss and whine sounds could be heard on the amp. Factory rest, tried the latest firmware, no sound.

Came across this post: No Audio - even without loops - Morningstar Gear / ML10X - User Forum - Morningstar Engineering

I did what was advice, and with input>A>output and connecting my guitar to Return A and amp to Output, I have sound. Is my ML10X faulty?

This sounds incredibly frustrating, especially since you had it up and running just a few hours prior. A good clue here is that you’re getting audio when injecting signal directly into the Return jack, but not through the main Input.

Before we assume the hardware is faulty, let’s do a quick check:

Power Supply Audit: The hiss and whine, combined with a sudden loss of audio, often points to a power delivery issue.

  • Unplug the USB cable before you power on the unit via the DC jack.
  • The ML10X defaults to USB power if it’s connected, but USB power is not sufficient to click the internal relays. If the relays don’t click, the signal path stays physically broken even if the screen looks fine.

Clean Slate: Since you’ve already done a factory reset, let’s try a simple routing test to bypass any editor logic:

  • In the Global Config, ensure Input Split is OFF and Loop Bypass Persist is OFF. Reboot after setting these, just in case.
  • Create a preset that connects only Input Tip -> Output Tip.
  • Reset the unit again and see if audio passes.

Internal Connection Check: If the simple test still fails but Loop A’s Return jack works, it’s possible a connector has come loose inside—likely from a bump or vibration.

  • You can remove the 4 backplate screws to check the internal ribbon cable connecting the Controller Board to the Audio Processing board.
  • Ensure the Audio Processing board is firmly seated into its 4 connectors on the audio jack boards.

Give the USB power trick a shot first—it’s the most common culprit for “it worked and now it doesn’t” scenarios. Let me know if that clears up the noise and brings the signal back.

It is frustrating. Everything else is working. Did everything in your answer, still no sound from IN except a high pitched noise akin to booting up an old pc. I opened carefully the device, the ribbon is firmly connected, no issue here.

Please send an email to help@morningstarfx.com so you’re properly in our queue and we’ll try to sort it out from there. Link this forum post so we know what’s been tried/not tried. Thanks!

Hello Jason, no news from the help desk so far.

Weird! I just checked the day before and I thought Gary and I had cleared most of it. Can you forward it to me at jason@morningstarfx.com ? I’ll take a look.

Hello Jason, any news?

Yeah, it looks like it went to spam. I’m answering internally now. Watch out for it today. Apologies!
