Hello everybody. New Morningstar user here, I’ve just purchased a MC6 Pro and a ML10x, can’t wait to start using those two units, even though it’s very frightening and overwhelming for the moment.
I’m trying to control the Boss Slicer SL-2 via the 3.5mm MIDI OUT on the MC6 Pro into the 3.5 MIDI IN of the SL-2. Has anyone here been able to use that Boss pedal with any kind of MIDI controller ? I’m having a lot of trouble. Even setting the correct MIDI channel for the Boss seems weird, even though I’ve followed the Boss manual thoroughly, it doesn’t react as expected to the MIDI channel settings. I’d love to also use MIDI clock from the MC6 Pro to the Boss, but nothing seems to work. Could it be a simple cabling issue ? Maybe I should try with a 5 pin DIN to 3.5 trs, but I haven’t got one for the moment.
Hi. I have the slicer and mc6 pro.
I have my mc6 mini midi out to my Zoia in then my zoia out to the midi in on slicer. I can only control two tempo. I have an aux switch I use with the mc6 to do tap. I can’t remember how I got it working. I don’t remember if I assigned a midi number.
I may have just done that then the tap started working ?
What do you want to control via midi with the slicer ?
Thanks ! Well first of all I’d like the SL-2 to receive midi clock from Pro Tools (btw if anybody knows how to set this up…), via the MC6 Pro or just by itself. Also, there are no presets on the Boss but there is a couple of CC numbers to activate or bypass the effect, to use MIDI EXP for the overall volume of the effect, and also another CC number to send TAP Tempo to it. The MC6 Pro can send midi clock info via it’s 3.5mm Midi out, right ?
Hi, I can confirm that’s possible. I’m using the MC with a gt core. No issues there. Have you checked the settings of your slicer? Is recieving midi clock enabled? The clock goes to all channels by default. Even if you’ve failed to set a midi channel it should be working. Maybe it’s just a faulty cable?
Hi,
I have been sending MIDI Clock from Ableton Live to Boss SL-2 with no issues at all. And it works really well.
You have to make sure the polarity of the TRS MIDI cable, and the polarity of your MC6 are right (for Boss pedals its the default).
Next make sure your ProTools is sending out MIDI Clock to MC6. I’m not a ProTools user, but on Ableton and Logic, you have to specifically enable sending MIDI Clock (Sync) to every connected MIDI device and port.
