I’m not sure if this is a Morningstar issue or a BOSS issue but there is certainly a problematic interaction occurring. I hope somebody might have some thoughts on this.
Anytime the BOSS EV-1-WL transmits MIDI data over the MC8 Pro’s 5-pin DIN MIDI or USB Host port, the MC8 Pro restarts. Idle connections are not a problem. Only pedal movement/data transmission triggers the restart. A short burst of MIDI data is transmitted, followed by a restart event.
I also tested this by connecting the EV-1-WL via a WIDI Master on the MC8 Pros’ DIN ports with the same result. So the EV-1-WL is certainly sending something that upsets the MC8 Pro.
Here is a short burst of data captured moments before the MC8 Pro restarted.
The CC#11 message that the BOSS is sending is problematic because it is triggering the Engage Preset function multiple times and hence causing the restart.
You can either change the MC8 PRO MIDI channel to something else (or set to Ignore MIDI), or use the MIDI Message converter to convert this CC#11 message to nothing.
Thanks @james. I followed your advice and selected “Controller Settings/General Configuration/MIDI Channel/Disabled” in the editor. This immediately resolved the issue with the DIN port’s incoming CC#11 message triggering restarts.
However, I also had Omniport 1/Expression Pedal 1 set to transmit CC#11 (Ch. 1). I had originally configured the device this way before I embarked on the external Bluetooth expression pedal experiment. I suspect this allowed some MIDI data to command the controller to trigger a restart.
Under MIDI Channel Settings/MIDI Channel 1, all ports were engaged. So, I disengaged all ports except Bluetooth and USB Device Port 1. This seems to have solved the problem permanently though I don’t understand exactly why.
