Boss 200 series pedals

@Pearlgiver You seem to have a wealth of information and hope you have an answer to this

I am using the MC6 pro attempting to adjust the DD-200’s time via midi clock. I am having 2 issues.

  1. When I set a certain time on the DD-200 via a preset and then recall that preset through the MC6 pro, it won’t keep the DD-200’s already set in place time. (i.e. if preset 5 is 120, it won’t default to that). This is WITHOUT even pressing anything that has a clock.

  2. When I attempt to use Morningstar Engineering’s midi clock to change the DD-200’s time, it won’t switch at all or at times it will just default to a time of 12.

I am at a lose. I have checked to confirm everything is set to midi capability (only via the IN port) on the DD-200 and that the MC6 pro has MIDI persist and ignoring any other commands. If you have any potential troubleshooting, please send it over! Thank you

Hi,

make sure ‘tempo hold’ is set to ‘off’.

‘Sync’ should be set to ‘auto’.

Hello @GuitarWolf,

Thank you for your reply. I can confirm both settings are set to what you had mentioned.

I am starting to think it’s more an an issue with the midi clock on the MC6 pro. When I try to use the midi clock and manually alter the BPM, it does not switch at all from the blinking/red text. The only thing that seems to work is loading in BPM’s, but with so many songs, that not realistic or enough slots to save BPM’s for each slot.

The MC has quite extensive options for MIDI clock. Would be helpful to have some screenshots of your preset and controller settings.

You got it!
For some reference. If I do standard “Tap Tempo” on the MC6 pro to the DD-200, it works flawlessly. The weird that not working is when I set it up as below with just a “press”. The BPM (in black) on the MC6 pro will briefly blink red but not change a single thing. No changes will be made on the dd-200 and it will only preview whatever the last BPM was no matte what preset I select on the DD-200.

Just tested on my MC8pro and it works fine.

Your preset looks good, too.

Is your firmware up to date?

Edit:

Tested on my MC6pro and it works fine, too.

Hi there,

I’m relatively new to MIDI control and have just bought the MC6. So far so good, this thing is awesome.

My board, among other things has a BeatBudy and a Boss IR-200. I’ve managed to program the MC6 to trigger a particular “song” in the BeatBuddy, as well as program a patch change on the IR-200 to the desired memory setting.

That was my initial task for performing and so far, it’s working great.

Where I start to struggle is trying to set up a bank on the MC6 to provide deeper control of the IR-200 (i.e. drive up/down, level up/dn, etc.).
Morningstar - are you able to add the IR-200 to the midi dictionary. And if anyone else has had success with the IR-200 specifically, I’d love to hear it.

Thanks!

Hi,

there is no point in adding the IR 200 to the dictionary, because the CCs to control the device have to be programmed by yourself.

It’s possible to assign a CC to every knob and switch on the IR, including CTL1 and CTL2. If you send the specified CC you are able to control whatever this knob or switch would do.

There is a list of possible assignes in the manual.

sure all the MIDI is customisable, but they still come with default values.

honestly, would still be valuable to have these boss 200/500 series in the MIDI dictionary… having just setup a bunch of them after being used to the workflow with the dictionary for a dozen or so other pedals, it was like a time machine to a much more annoying past…

just add an asterisk for these pedals, and whichever other boss series share this MIDI customisability…
