Bigsky Infinite Hold & Timeline Oscillation/Runaway Repeats

Hello all!
Apologies in advance if this topic or similar has already been addressed. I couldn’t find quite the same thing, but who knows.

I am in the process of getting my workflow set up with the MC8. Today, I’m specifically wondering about some functions for the Timeline and Bigsky.

As you may know, if you hold down the currently active delay’s footswitch on the Timeline, it sends it into self-oscillation/infinite repeats (whatever you want to call it). As soon as you release the footswitch, it trails off and goes back to your normal delay setting.

Similarly, the Bigsky allows for a press-and-hold function that can a couple of “infinite”/“freeze” functions.

My MC8 pages are laid out with a “home page” and specific banks for both my Timeline and Bigsky, with six stomps on each page to change to various individual presets. Nothing particularly revolutionary.

What I’d like to do - if possible - is to basically mimic the Timeline’s footswitch behavior. Say I have Preset A active, corresponding to a particular Timeline preset. I’d like to be able to press and hold the MC8’s “A” footswitch and have it emulate holding down the Timeline’s corresponding active preset footswitch for as long as I hold down MC8 “A” (and so on for each respective MC8 preset/footswitch).

In briefly digging thru the editor, I’m wondering if it wouldn’t work to do something like “Long Press - ‘A Footswitch Press Down’” and “Long Press Release - ‘A Footswitch Press Up’” (A/B depending on which Timeline bank/footswitch is active)? This kind of seems like what I’m after but if I’m not mistaken this would be more like a “latching” action rather than momentary, if that makes sense.

Speaking of “latching,” however, that’s more what I’m interested in for the Bigsky. I’ve had a few Disaster Area midi controllers in the past, and many of them have had the ability to program a button as latching hold/freeze. If you have a reverb active, you can press that button and it’ll freeze whatever sustain you’ve got at that point and latches/holds until you press the button again to release. The above-outlined hypothetical Timeline commands seem more in-line with this idea, but I’m not totally sure. Like the Timeline, I’d like for this to be on every preset in the “Bigsky” bank, but I would prefer to have this one be latching rather than momentary.

So, am I on the right track here? Any better solutions, advice for workflow, etc? Thank you!

Hi. You will be able to achieve what you want in both scenarios. You can program a Press action for ‘A Footswitch Press Down’ and Release action for ‘A Footswitch Press Up’. This will mimic the TL and BS foot switches, allowing you to hold down for the effect and release to stop.

You can also have the effect latch if you like. You can use Toggle Mode to achieve this. Press action in position 1 for ‘A Footswitch Press Down’ and Press action in position 2 for ‘A Footswitch Press Up’. We explain how to use Toggle Mode in this video:
