Axe FM3/FX III with Morningstar MC6 MK2

This gentleman has made some great videos.
I was able to do pretty much everything
BUT in this video I have questions.

Coming from Kemper Stage.
I plan on using my FM3 in a song mode.
Where each song is a preset.
I will use the three buttons on the FM3 for scene 1,2,3
I plan on using the MC6 for scene 4,5,6
I then want to use the top 3 rows for effects.
I was able to get the scenes programmed based on Roby’s videos THANK YOU!

Questions from videos.

  1. Can I make the screen flash for the scene I am on? I got it to turn the flash on but when I went to the next scene (from button A to B) button A still flashed…
  2. programming buttons for effects, does this work based on the effect enabled in the preset? The video showed me how to do it but, say I want to add a second boost or another effect would I need to put it in a block?
  3. When I do the turn drive on and off it doesn’t turn it on, it simply makes the drive block change from 1A to 1B
  4. I think this was asked in this thread and the answer is no; can I get the MC6 to read the names from the FM3?

Not familiar with the FM3 but on the MC6 there is a Bank Setting (Clear Preset Toggles) that resets the Toggle of any preset when another is clicked (A stops blinking when B is pressed and vice versa)
Another (more cumbersome) option is program a Set Toggle on each preset that manually disengages the toggle state of whatever presets you check (on preset A, use a Set Toggle to disengage everything except A, then repeat for each preset respectively)

Sorry I can’t speak to your other questions.

OK I am trying to figure this out.
Where do I find the clear preset toggle? And would this be assigned to all buttons?
thank you!!

OK i think I found this.
A lot of the old demos show the older software I guess because I just got this controller and all the “new stuff” and it looks different.

Well bad news bears.
I have it BUT the top row D,E,F are also (of course) making A,B,C toggle off.
I may just have to use it like it is for now, I may be asking more out of it (MC6) than it(MC6) can do.

If I’m understanding correctly you’re gonna have to use the second method I mentioned. Leave the bank setting turned off. Then for every single preset (button) you need to program a press for Set Toggle and then check mark A B and C but leave the preset you’re programming unchecked. This means when you press those buttons, before it does whatever else you’ve programed, it stops any other presets that were blinking. Then just don’t do that on the top row.

idk if that’s the best way to do what you want but it works for my situation.
just put your normal stuff below that

Thank you!
I have another question which may be more of a general AUX/MC6 question
I have my external switch connected to the MC6 and i have it set to bank up or down
can I also make that external switch send a midi command?

Hi, yes you can. All you need to know about using external aux switches with your Morningstar controller can be found in the video below.

saw the video, it looks like maybe if i set the button to work as gh or ij (going from memory) i can use gh or ij as both bank up and midi change vs the switch just banking up or down and sending a midi as part of that, i forgot all the different switch types but there was one setting that did bank up/down by default the question was can that bank up/down by default also send midi VS having to program a gh/ij for each bank

If you want to have the aux switches bank up and down by default for all banks, you need to select the “Fixed Switch” Omniport option. They will not send MIDI in this mode.

If you want each switch to bank up/down and send MIDI, you will need to select the “Aux Switch” option. Then you just need to program each switch to bank up/down + send your desired MIDI message. You can then copy the switch and hold down the ‘Paste’ switch to paste to all banks (you can also triple click the paste button on the editor to paste to all banks).
