Hi–There is a way to use sysx to initiate record on the Boomerang III looper–I have tried and failed to make that happen.
Anyone here doing that?
TIA
Just came across this that implies that it may be possible. If you are still interested! Reddit - Dive into anything
Right, that was the source of my attempt. I was unsuccessful.
Hoo boy I will be attempting this soon. Anyone done it successfully? Looks intimidating, esp for a newbie. Anything to keep that Sidecar off my board though!
Look forward to hearing about your experience.
There is an unusual method you need to implement when controlling the Boomerang, which is described in the google sheet. Each time the boomerang receives a PC message for a certain function, it will no longer recognize that message again until a different PC message is sent to trigger that same function. As a result, you need to program a Toggle switch on the MC6 to toggle between 2 different PC messages controlling the same Boomerang function, and this will produce the expected outcome. Complicated for sure but it sounds workable and may be worth it!
Does the Boomerang pass MIDI Thru to its out port?
Honestly, that wasn’t bad at all. You just use Toggle Mode to make sure you don’t send the same two Program Change messages in a row. I have all the alternate functions from the Sidecar working now. However, i wish there was a way to trigger the actual loop switches, like record, etc. But yeah I say give it a shot, it’s totally worth it.
Record is the function I wish to control with MIDI!
If wishes were horses . . .
It’s still pretty cool to have all the other functions via midi, but say if you select Stack, you still need to select which track you’re going to stack on the actual Boomerang unit.
Chiming in here to say I got some functions set up like Start/Stop All, Erase (hold for Erase All), and Thru Mute.
I’m also not getting the Record function to work via SysEx message, which is unfortunate.
Thanks Ben.
Got my eye on the new Zoom looper, it might be the ticket.

It’s not shipping yet, but much more MIDI control.
I got the MC to do a bunch of the commands, so not every command works but several useful ones do—nice to have extra foot switches for less used functions.
Still hoping I can get the sysx to work.
