Advice on dealing with Midi Clock in this rig?

I’m new to Midi, just got an MC6 and would like to ask the community for advice. I use a Kemper and Eventide H9 in the loop.

I’m ultimately trying to control the H9 with the MC6, except for the tap tempo which I’d like my Kemper to provide (I can tap the tempo from the remote.) Would the best way to go about this, to go from Midi Out of the Kemper into the Midi In of the MC6, and the Midi Out of the MC6 into the H9? Is this even feasible?

Thanks!

That would be my first choice. With that setup the MC6 will passthrough the clock to all devices connected to it’s Midi Outs (if you don’t disable it in Controler Setting, of course).

This just would mean you can’t control the Kemper with the MC6 if you wanted. I’d run MC6 to Kemper to H9. I’m not familiar with the Kemper but would imagine it’s got midi thru and then you can just ignore any clock programming on the MC6. Used to have my MC6 into a Boss RC500 looper into a Boss DD200 delay, sending clock from the RC500 to the DD200.

I think that we can control the Kemper with MC6, disabling MIdi Thru on Kemper to prevent that the clock doesn’t loop (I don’t have a Kemper but I use a similar setup for Beatbuddy as Master Clock)
MC6 Out → Kemper In
Kemper Out → MC6 In
MC6 Out → H9 In

Is there a reason I’m not privy to as to why you would go out and back as apposed to straight through from MC6 to Kemper to H9?

No. Just a preference because this way all Midi Out, Omniports and 5 pin, have clock to send to the chains connected there. In my MC8 is a big diference because I have 4 Omniports. I admit that your setup is simpler and less prone to trouble.

I managed to send the midi clock from the Kemper to the H9 (yes the KPA has Midi Thru). As cVarsity suggested, I’ll be going MC6 → Kemper (Midi Through) → H9. As he said, that way I could also control the Kemper with the MC6. Thanks so much for your help!

For those editing the H9 and are connected to the H9 Control software, unplug the micro USB from the pedal or it won’t respond to Midi… took me a while to figure out!

You know that you can configure Exp1 and Exp2 on MC6 as Midi Out, right? Only need the right cables to use them.

I didn’t know that… so I could technically send midi out to both the H9 and the Kemper, that’s great! This little box is awesome.

Yeah I’ve switched over to sending out of an Omniport to the boss pedals and the 5pin to my other pedals. But unless you have a specific reason to include more cables I’d just go the straight through route.
Boss uses 3.5mm trs and it just made sense to go from 1/4 to 3.5 instead of using their (or making my own) adapter.

Welcome to the world of midi! Often times I find my creativity is the bottleneck now.
There’s a lot of features (at least to my newbie self) that are not that apparent so be sure to do some reading on here for ideas! (Scroll counters and Waveform generators etc) My favorite thing to experiment with recently is setting up “momentary switches” of sorts.
Set an action (like delay feedback 100%) to a Press and then another (feedback back to ~35%) on Release.
