Advanced mode no longer responding to loop bypass messages

I had a problem with one of my ML10Xs (my pedalboard took a hit and the daughterboard came loose) which I have resolved, but in the process of troubleshooting it I did a backup, factory reset, reinstalled the 1.2 firmware, and uploaded my backup. Now there are two issues:

  1. It is no longer responding to loop bypass messages in advanced mode
  2. Per preset, all available loops are active at all times despite the preset dictating some to be bypassed.

Anyone see anything like this?

@james i would love your input on this one.

Does “Loop Bypass Persist” happen to be on?

No, I checked that already

When you try to engage/bypass, the icons on the display turn on and off, but the actual switch is not responding?

No, the icons on the device continue to show as active. After playing with it some more over the weekend, it’s basically like the device is refusing to bypass any loops that are assigned to a given preset, in either advanced or simple mode. Any loop included in a preset’s signal path is always active, even if it is supposed to start out bypassed (shows as red in the editor) or if it is sent a bypass CC command. I can only think it has something to do with the loading of the backup file.

I know you checked already, but can you try turning the loop bypass persist on, saving, and restarting, then turning it off, saving, and restarting?

Sure, I’ll try this when I get home.

Hi, just tried your suggestion and it did not resolve the issue.

I just tested this. ML10X in advanced mode, tested with A Tip where I sent a CC#10 toggling between value 127 and 0 messages, as well as a CC#20 value 127 message, and both could toggle A Tip while in Advanced mode (LCD indicating the toggle state).

What MIDI Controller are you using, and if a Morningstar controller, can you share your bank file or let me know what CC messages you are sending to trigger the loop bypass function?

This one sounds like it is most definitely because of the Loop Bypass Persist setting (I also got confused sometimes when I forgot this is engaged). Just to avoid any doubt, can you change the setting on the ML10X itself? Go to Menu >> Global Setting >> Set Loop Bypass Persist to OFF

Here is a bank export. My controller is an MC8 Pro. CC Messages are 16 and 17 set to toggle between 0 and 127. Of my 3 ML10X units on my rig, this is the only one behaving this way. The other two respond as expected, the only difference between them is that this on this one I performed a factory reset and loaded the banks from a saved backup file. In your testing, did you also factory reset and load a backup? That’s the only possible explanation I can think of. It is still responding to other CC messages, PC Messages, and sending midi downstream to the rest of my rig.

I have also confirmed that loop bypass persist is turned off. Thanks for looking into this.

This is remarkable, just for fun I tried reinstalling the firmware again (it was definitely already on 1.2.0, I can’t tell you how many times I confirmed it) and it’s back to normal. I got to thinking that it was behaving as if on the previous version, where loops cannot be bypassed in advanced mode and thought I’d try it to see. But it was definitely on 1.2.0 before, so I can’t account for what went wrong.

Either way, we’re good here.
