We can’t confirm at this point on whether we’ll launch the MC8 PRO with the v3.13 firmware yet but for any future firmware updates, the features across all the PRO models should be the same. We’ll always trickle down the features to the base models (MC3 etc) as well if there are no technical limitations.
It’s still under development and we’re not taking pre-orders for it. Initial launch target was by September but there might be some delays as we decided to add some new hardware features.
One strong reason to upgrade from MC6 Pro to MC8 Pro would be saving/displaying preset names for pedals. As far as I understand that won’t be possible for MC6 Pro because of the limited memory. Will the MC8 Pro have more internal storage so that this is on the list of potential features?
Also: another vote for wireless MIDI! (And an internal battery?)
If there will be a preorder list it will probably not open to European customers?
Uggh. We’re likely to have a bunch of incompatible hardware, crossover cables/adapters (verus straight through).
Seems like a similar mess as TRS MIDI with all possible variations out there and no leadership from a standards body.
Wonder if there’s a way for Morningstar and other small players to work together for a defacto standard that maybe Roland and other big players buy into?
Any info on the midi outs for the upcoming 8 Pro please? If I want to send midi out to multiple boards (home studio), will I be able to send midi in one direction from 5pin and in another direction via mini TRS or other connection(s) and will some have all but clock functionality where other connections will send all through please? I have two of your midi boxes and am considering a third and just thinking through connections with upcoming MC8Pro as master controller. Tyvm!
If you would suggest I use just the 5pin midi out from 8Pro to a 5-pin midi hub instead to split signal going to each board and then your midi box for just the splits to each pedal once I get midi to the board, I could also just do that.
Finally - any update on timing much appreciated, tyvm!
We’ve got the enclosures and LCD boards but it seems like we will only be getting the small batch of boards after the new year. Hopefully by end of Jan we can get them out to our beta testers + get some units out at a discounted price. Unfortunately, it seems futile to provide any timeline at this point.
We’ll have it at NAMM if anyone is interested to have a look.
Next step after some testing to confirm the hardware is all ok is to get the first batch of PCBs done and that would take another 2 months.
Thanks for the update!
I’m sure your system for beta testing is all figured out, but on the off chance having another tester is useful, I’ve got both the MC8 and MC6 Pro running many different types of applications/use cases and may be able to provide some useful feedback.
Thanks for your tireless work on the hardware and software many of us have come to rely on!
Don’t know what I need to do to sign up to be a beta tester or early adopter but I would absolutely love to. Been asking for the MC8 pro for a long time lol.
